  • The Kalahari ceramic studio was established in Cape Town in 1950. The founders and designers Aleksanders and Elma Klopkanov were expatriate Latvians who emigrated to South Africa in 1948. The couple used mainly native clays to produce their earthenware terracotta pottery.
