Cajamarca Mirror: This style of painting flower on the reverse side of glass originated in the early 1900’s in Cajamarca, one of the first Spanish settlements in northern Peru, where the original artisans were inspired by the local flora. After the wood backing and glass are cut to the desired shape, the design is outlined on the glass in ink filled in using watercolors a gold paint called purpurina. After the baking has been glued on the edges sealed with molding paste, the border is painted with purpurina and “aged” using a dark color called Nogalina. - Period: Late 20th Century
