- This early 20th century solid brass fireplace surround is a peacock style hearth screen inspired by the Victorian Gothic style with its intricate gargoyle at the base on both sides. The gargoyle head at the base symbolizes good luck and were meant to frighten away evil spirits. It folds out like a peacock tail and there are latches on each side to keep the fan closed when not in use.
