  • This is a stunning antique early 19th century Betel nut bowl. This bowl was used ceremonially as a vessel for the betel nut. The tradition of using the betel nut dates back over 4000 years in Asian culture. It was an important part of Asian Marriage Ceremonies, and used mostly combined with the betel leaf to celebrate and signify the joining in marriage. The betel nut represented the man and the betel leaf represented the woman, They were both combined in this bowl at weddings, and the Bride, Groom and parents of the bride and groom would eat them at the wedding.
